Pasighat 4th April :--In a well-executed operation that resulted in multiple seizures and the arrest of three (including one IRBN staff), the Pasighat Police have achieved a significant breakthrough in their ongoing efforts to combat the drug menace.
On 02/04/2025 at approximately 1300 hours, credible information was received by the Officer-in-Charge, Pasighat Police Station, Inspector Ige Lollen, regarding one Shri Mijom Damin, a resident of Gumin Nagar and a serving IRBn personnel, allegedly involved in drug peddling.
Acting swiftly, a police team led by OC PS Pasighat and comprising SI K. Dagium, ASI R. Lowang, H/C (Driver) S. Lingu, Ct. K. Kharmo, and Ct. R. Rukbo was formed, and the matter was reported to the SDPO Pasighat and SP Pasighat. After obtaining the requisite authorisation as per the NDPS Act, the team proceeded to conduct a search at the residence of Shri Mijom Damin in Gumin Nagar.
During the search, suspected narcotic substance (heroin) weighing approximately 10.64 grams was recovered and seized in the presence of independent witnesses from rented house of Mijom Damin. Additionally, a mobile handset and cash amounting to Rs. 2,000 was also seized. As per records, Mijom Damin was on leave & staying in a rented house at Gumin Nagar area of Pasighat town.
Upon subsequent interrogation, Mijom Damin revealed that he had procured the contraband from one Shri Ojong Osik and agreed to assist the police in tracing him. Acting on this lead, the same police team, under the supervision of SDPO Pasighat Dr. Akanksha Milind Tamgadge, IPS, proceeded towards the residence of Shri Ojong Osik at Kesung Paatang. While en route, the team spotted Shri Ojong Osik walking towards his residence. He was identified by Shri Mijom Damin. Following due procedures under the NDPS Act, a body search was conducted, resulting in the recovery of one pink tobacco container and a transparent vial containing suspected narcotics. The total weight of the seized substance, was approximately 15.81 grams. The seizure was made in the presence of the SDPO Pasighat (Gazetted officer) and independent witnesses.
Both accused were brought to Pasighat Police Station, where a case 25/2025 under Section 21(B)/27(2) NDPS Act was registered and endorsed to SI C.I. Manchey for further investigation.
Based on additional inputs obtained during subsequent interrogation, the police received information about another peddler reportedly residing in Jonai and supplying contrabands to these two. Accordingly, a second police team comprising of SI K. Dagium, ASI R. Lowang, Ct. G. Ete, and Ct. G. Nangkar was constituted and dispatched to Jonai at 2130 hours. With assistance from Asaam Police, the team successfully apprehended one Shri Sujit Das, who was caught red-handed with two tobacco containers containing suspected narcotic substances weighing approximately 16.19 grams.
In total, a seizure of 42.64 gms of suspected heroin has been made in the case and all three accused persons – Mijom Damin, Ojong Osik, and Sujit Das – have been arrested by Pasighat Police for further investigation. Further, Ct Mijom Damin has been placed under suspension with immediate effect by CO 5th IRBN and necessary disciplinary action has been initiated.
SP Pasighat, Shri Pankaj Lamba, IPS commended the efforts of the team led by SDPO Pasighat, Dr. Akanksha Milind Tamgadge, IPS, ADS I/C Shri. Ayup Boko, APPS and OC Pasighat Sh. Ige Lollen and reiterated district police’s firm commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug-related offences.He further appealed public to provide information about peddlers by reaching out to ADS, East Siang Police and identity of all such informers will be kept secret.
