Jonai, November 10, 2025:--
The Sainik Schools Academic Staff Association (SSASA) has submitted formal representations to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Ministry of Defence (Sainik Schools Society), and the Superintendent of Police, East Siang District, over the arrest of teachers serving as Housemasters at Sainik School East Siang, Arunachal Pradesh.
The Association’s President, Mr. Abhinav Pandey, stated that the teachers have been wrongly arrested on charges of “negligence of duty” despite having no legal responsibility for night-time hostel supervision. Under the Sainik Schools Rules (1997), the duties of Housemasters are confined to academic, moral, and disciplinary guidance—while hostel safety and staffing are the responsibility of the Principal, Vice Principal, and Administrative Officer.
The SSASA has highlighted serious violations of NCPCR and CBSE hostel-safety norms, which require trained wardens and counsellors to oversee residential facilities. With 379 cadets but only one matron, one superintendent, and three ward boys, the school has forced teachers to perform unauthorized night duties—violating their fundamental right to rest, dignity, and liberty under Article 21 of the Constitution.
Calling the arrests a case of “selective enforcement and systemic failure,” Mr. Pandey urged for a transparent and impartial inquiry, immediate release of the arrested teachers, and abolition of illegal non-academic duties across all Sainik Schools.
